A JOURNEY ON DRY LANDS
ODE TO THE DESERT
After the birth of my collection “The Apricot Series”, I was pulled to continue honoring the colors of the earth. As the winter came in, I started to think of where I would travel to next. Although I had never yet seen it, both myself, my friends and relatives started noticing how my artwork had a feeling reminiscent of the desert.
Many signs manifested it - it was as if it had been calling me. That was also a time in my life where I needed a death, a rebirth and a connection to the wild woman within. And the desert is simply an excellent place for this process. So I went to experience it fully.
During my long travels in American desert landscapes, I spent most of my time in California (Joshua Tree) as well as Arizona (The Saguaro Desert). I also travelled to New Mexico to witness the treasures that native civilisations had left behind in the heart of this vast continent. It was an incredible journey full of discoveries within and without.
As expected, the desert landscapes particularly spoke to me and ignited my inner fire.
Little by little, a new body of work was coming to life. The time I spent birthing it was a time of true rebirth as an artist. Through my experimentation I came closer to my essence and that of the environment around me. Therefore, a big part of these colors, symbols and stories of this work will be a staple in my growing journey.
I created original paintings, but also commissions of particular dimensions - such as a mural on a desert water tank, and adornments in a beautiful inn called the Posada. This collection is called “On Dry Lands” and honors these rejuvenating experiences I lived in these arid landscapes.
Many of the paintings from this series were also turned into art prints, which have now been printed in several editions and have travelled their own journeys, from private homes and spaces, to interior design projects and shop collections across the world. I am eternally grateful for the messages I’ve received from the universe and how I was called to let this landscape heal me from within to extract a body of work so important in my path.
